SidWiki is a free online encyclopedia and personal blogging service.

History

SidWiki was initially started as 'StableWiki', the same name as the wiki engine itself. However, the developer and founder of this small website think that StableWiki should be an engine name itself so that anyone can use it without associating with the encyclopedia service StableWiki itself… and that was the curated cool version of the reason.

The other and much more plausible and reliable version of the reason why the developer chose SidWiki is because the .com address of stablewiki has been taken and sold for like freaking thousands of dollars, so he said hell no. So he chose the other name, SidWiki, which is also available as .com, idealistic since that dev has a strong controversial opinion that anything other than .com is worthless.

Name

But how did he end up with this weird name? First, he asked ChatGPT to get some cool name ideas, and that AI thing was giving a bunch of weird and unappealing names. So he just had to choose the name by himself, just like the other people did until 2022, the release year of ChatGPT.

We need to know the fact that the developer Dave’s username is @disfordave. It means ‘D is for Dave’ just like ‘A is for Apple’. So he came up with the name DisWiki, and it was just a moment that he realised D is Wiki or whatever that weird name is not going to work since it looks like dislike, diss, and all those dis-negative stuff that might end up being mocked by people.

So he just chose the reverse of ‘Dis’, which is ‘Sid’. It is still weird as hell, but it is not something negative, and he eventually came up with the cool full name of Sid, ‘Shared Indexed Data’. So he just chose that name.

Technology

Like we’ve mentioned before, SidWiki uses StableWiki Engine, which is built with Next.js and PostgreSQL connected with Prisma ORM. The history of the wiki engine and its project can be found in StableWiki Engine page. (TLDR, he just doesn’t know PHP)

Fun Facts

Except WelcomePage, the first SidWiki page created is StableWiki (now redirected to StableWiki Engine) and the first page not related to the wiki is California.
The first SidWiki page related to programming is JavaScript.
The first SidWiki page related to sports is (although it is a ‘motorsport’) WRC, because the founder is a fan of it.
The first SidWiki user is you guessed it, the developer of SidWiki, User:dave (He is now using User:disfordave to match with his GitHub username and his personal domain).
